So now the 360 project has come to a end, it's not long before my whole video class becomes engaged with another 360 project. This time we, as a class-turned-production team, are tasked by creating a virtual tour of RMIT's new renovated theatre called The Capitol. It's a building that has been around for many decades in Melbourne, originally used as a cinema for black and white movies and has recently been restored to be used for university and other creative industry events. For building with such a rich history, it seems only right that we create such a immersive experience for people. So we spent a full day filming at the theatre with heavy duty 360 cameras that work ten times more powerful than the portable ones we used before. Taking various shots within different locations within the building from the entrance/lobby, through to the main theatre space and up into the interval rest spots that were originally designated seperately for men and women back in the early days. So here we are at the final entry for this project. It has been a challenge no doubt about that but I finally made it to the finished product. Since the last post, I talked about using 2d elements to add flavour to the 360 sequence using after effects. After experimenting with the After Effects program over time, I began to realise that it was too much of a novelty and not much of a creative aspect or outlook. So that Idea was scrapped too. Although another idea was close around the corner which was a lot more effective to apply and create. I thought of instead creating a sort of VHS like break-up/glitch/static layer that would go over the video and the soundtrack. The story behind the effect would be that the viewer was seeing the 360 view through the eyes of a machine, a malfunctioning reconnaissance robot who is getting a scope of what Melbourne life is like.
